Minutes of the general meeting
March 10th, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm Commodore Barker presiding.
The pledge of allegiance was recited. The roll was taken with all board members present.
Old business
Treasures report:
Guarino’s report regarding profit and loss was the same as the report given to the board on March 3rd, 2008.as well as members resigning in good standing. Two letters went out to members for late payment, who’s accounts have since been paid.
Secretary’s report:
Dressler discussed the requirement for members to have current vessel registrations on file with the dockmaster.
Docks and grounds:
Nelson reported that the next acme day will be march 29th, 2008.
Planning report:
Decker pointed out the new cruising board in the clubhouse for members who want to announce their cruising plans or invite other members to cruise with them. Decker then asked O’Riordan to discuss the plans for the dingy run in Fort Meyers at Matanzas inn. Social report: Kresge thanked diane hodges for all her hard work in running the water way cleanup that occurred on march 8th, 2008. Kelly McGoldrick then discussed the Easter event for Saturday march 22nd, 2008, which will include a dingy run to John Lloyd park, followed by a strawberry festival at the boat club and theLSBC traditional Easter bonnet event. On Easter Sunday, Joe and Cathy will be serving breakfast at the club. The next clubhouse acme will be Saturday April 12th, 2008.
Vice Commodore’s report:
O’Riordan introduced pat burns the director of development for hospice care of Southeast Florida, who has been chosen as this years charity for the club. Ms. Burns then talked about the organization and what they provide to the community. Donations to the charity can be made at any meeting, given to the Vice Commodore, or by way of a pledge that will be billed to the member through the club.
Commodore’s report: Barker stated that letters will be going out to members whose vessels may be in violation of the derlict boat rule as discussed at the board meeting of March 3rd, 2008.
New business
Secretary’s report:
Dressler discussed the need for volunteers to help run the up coming women’s and dad’s dolphin days tournments.
Docks and grounds report:
Nelson reported that a member who works for Broward county fire rescue had recommended that the club purchase a defibrillator. This was then followed by a motion to make the purchase and seconded. Discussion then followed concerning its use and accessibility. Fred Romanowicz then made a motion to table the purchase until we have further information. His motion was seconded and carried.
Membership report:
Jeremy Duboff introduced his son Jeremy Duboff for membership. David Hill, Neil Hughes, Ron Dewillers and Fred Ballassaro were re-introduced for membership. They were then voted into the club and the secretary administered the oath of membership.
Planning report:
Decker gave a report of the scheduled club repairs based on the items on short term plan that were already approved by the club. The only other item that needed to be approved by the membership was repair to the fence around the old clubhouse were we keep a lot of our building materials . Romanowicz made a motion to approve the short term plan, which was seconded and carried.
Vice Dommodore’s report: O’Riordan reminded everyone about the Wayne Kabbes kid’s cane pole tournament and that the signup sheets are available in the clubhouse. O’riordan reported that a member donated an 18’ angler center console with a motor, and a trailer, that will be auctioned off by sealed bid with a minimum bid of $200.. If you wish to bid on the boat, motor and trailer, your sealed bid should include the time and date on it. Dino Freeman then donated the first $100. To the charity followed by Bob Pisut donating $100.00 and O’Riordan donating $75.00 toward his $150.00 pledge. Diane Hodges then thanked the membership for their support of the waterway cleanup. Romanowicz then joined the club in thanking diane. This months 50/50 was for $127.00 which was won by Joe Power who donated $50.00 to the charity.
This months fishing tournment: 3rd place Jeff Brown, 2nd place, Joe (fish) Samar, and 1st place Bob(spike) Speich, who donated the money to the charity, along with the first and second place winners. The charity raffle raised $125.00 which was won by Russ Betz who donated it back to the charity.
A motion was made to adjorn and carried.
